Education Makes the Difference x
Is this where you would want to see your child, lying on a pile of trash out in the cold cruel world, with nowhere to turn to except the occasional kindness of strangers if they are even that lucky?
Every day, thousands of kittens are born in to just this sort of world, a world where most people show them little or no compassion and love, a world ill equipped to help due to its lack of education about their plight. Yet, education on how to remedy this situation is readily available ... we just have to know where to look.
With today’s technology, information is only a few clicks away. Many sites are dedicated to teaching us about TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return), but few people know enough about this practice to even know where to being to look. TNVR is an alternative to the common practice in many communities of trapping homeless, community cats and eliminating (euthanizing) them from society. When TNVR programs are put in to place, community cats are trapped by rescue groups, transported to spay/neuter clinics, surgically altered, and given shots before being returned to their colonies. Most times, these colonies are, or will be managed by caretakers who supply food, water, and medical attention to these cats on an ongoing basis. Sounds much more humane, right...then why are there so few programs in place for this practice? Once again this all comes down to lack of education.
It is time for more people to become involved, because an educated public would make a world of difference in the way that we are humans view these cats. When people come together to make changes to the way their local shelters and government officials treat community cats, only then will we see a world that is less hostile to the cats. Remember, they did not choose the life that has been forced upon them, and we can really make a difference!
If you would like to know more about TNVR, or would like to help by becoming a voice for these cats, please, seek out a rescue group or shelter in your area, volunteer a few hours of your time to make the world a better place for all community cats. Your life will be better for it too, because helping feels so good!
